New Product & Review: Scor-Pal

From the manufacturer's website: "The slightly textured scoring surface is 12" x 12", with a raised fence at the top (ruler markings) and on the left and right side. This aligns your paper for perfect scoring. No more crooked cards! Grooves are across the board at different intervals. Besides the normal 1/2" and 1" intervals there are grooves at 2 1/8" for gate fold cards, at 4 1/4" for normal A2 cards, and at 3.666" and 7.333" for brochure folding (divides 11" paper into equal thirds) When you place your card stock on the scoring surface, you are able to do multiple scores without moving the paper. Grid cards, accordion folds, boxes etc are scored in seconds. The score lines result in crisp, accurate folds! At the 0 to 1" mark and 11" to 12" mark there are 1/8" markings. By proper paper placement this will allow you to score 1/8 " increments such as 1 7/8" The included scoring tool snaps into place at the top of the unit. It is always at hand. It has been specially designed to fit the grooves so the card stock can not be torn while scoring. Additional scoring tools can be ordered separately. Perfect tool for straight and diagonal line embossing on cards and scrapbook pages!"
I have had a Scor-Pal for a few weeks now. I have mostly used it for A2 card folding, and it works incredibly well. At first, I did balk at the price. But after using it and seeing how precise my folds were, I decided I wasn't going to waste anymore cardstock by mis-scoring. I can't tell you how much cardstock I've had to put in the scrap pile because my old trimmer's scoring was off a bit. With the Scor-Pal, I don't have that problem. It comes with a scoring tool that glides right over any cardstock I've used so far. The top of the tray also makes it so easy to make sure the stock is perfectly aligned.
I have seen many beautiful cards made using 45 degree angle lattice scoring, but have not yet tried it.

Rough & Tough

These double sided papers from KaiserCraft are really great for almost any photos of little boys. These are from their Rough & Tough collection. I've had them in mind for a while for these photos. I finally got around to scrapbooking these photos and couldn't be happier with the end result. I added stamped stars and raised a few of them with foam dots. I also added som BoBunny brads, and that was about it. I am big on distressing, especially on boy pages. But I didn't have to do any distressing here because its already part of the paper design! I love the photos of my boys having a waterfight and how this paper works with the photos.

Scrapbooking News

I spend a lot of time on the internet doing scrapbooking and stamping research. I look up things like the newest scrapbooking products, new techniques, templates for projects, etc. Today, I came across some interesting tidbits.
  • Memory Makers Magazine is ceasing publication this fall and the Memory Makers Masters contest is canceled. As far as I can tell, there is no definite plan as to what they are going to do about fulfilling subscriptions. You can read more HERE.
  • On a more positive note, Scrapbook Trends Magazine is trying something new. They are offering digital subscriptions at a much lower cost than the printed magazine. I have to say I always loved their magazine, but found it painful to shell out $15 for a single copy. You can see the new digital pricing HERE, and the pricing to receive all their magazines is a bargain.
  • Over the last many months, I have seen ProvoCraft being blasted on many blogs and message boards. Provo Craft president/CEO Jim Thornton finally addressed some of the issues on the company's message board. One thing that I did not see addressed is why cartridges are taking so long to be released to stores after they are shown at the trade shows like CHA. The newest set of releases, which included the Hannah Montana and SpongeBob licensed cartridges, won't be arriving until sometime in June, almost 6 months after they were introduced. Hopefully, they can get things straightened out, because we love their products.
The scrapbooking and papercrafting world is an ever evolving one. There seem to be many changes coming quickly now. I will try to keep updating you with important industry news as I find it.

A little glitter...

...goes a long way. We have a few colors of the beautiful Doodlebug Designs Sugar Coated Cardstock. The entire sheet is covered with fine glitter and it really is gorgeous. It hit me the other day that the Limeade green color would be peferct for Tinkerbell's dress. And since we have the Tinkerbell & Friends cricut cartridge, I went to work.
I have to admit that Tink can be frustrating to cut, mostly her eyes. Try to cut her at at least 5 inches tall. First I cut her shadow outline from black, and her dress from the glittered green paper. I cut the rest of the elents for her from white paper. There was 2 reasons for this. One, I didn't have the right skin & hair colored paper, but I knew I had skin & hair colored markers, as well as colors for her eyes and lips. Second, I had lots of sheets of white paperon hand for any mis-cutting that might happen.
I used Copic markers for the coloring of her skin, hair, eyes, & lips, but you could use whatever you have on hand, including chalks! She really sparkles in her glittery dress, but it's hard to capture that sparkle in a photograph. I also added half inch strips of the Doodlebug Designs Sugar Coated Cardstock just above and below the photos. I just love how this turned out!

Quick Mother's Day cards

Mother's Day is right around the corner. Above you can see a couple of cards I made using these beautiful blossoms from BoBunny. I cut 2 of the letter "M" to put on each side of the blossom. I cut letters on the Cricut using the new Calligraphy Collection Cartridge (both of the fonts I used are on the cartridge). For the purple card, I used BoBunny's Heather DoubleDot paper and a Martha Stewart border punch. On the pink one used the same Doubledot paper in Wild Berry, and a scalloped border punch. The great thing about BoBunny is that so many of their products coordinate with the Doubledot collection.
These cards were super easy and only took 10 minutes from start to finish!
